2011 Senior Model Program

We are very excited to announce our 2011 Senior Spokesmodel Program is now underway!! This is a great opportunity to have your images featured in our 2011 promotional materials and participate in two fun-filled photo shoots.

Please read the information below and fill out the Online Application. We will then contact you if you are a good candidate and schedule you to attend an upcoming model orientation session! While we would love to accept everyone who applies, we do need to limit the number of models per school. We look forward to meeting you! APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 15th, 2010.

Who should apply?

- You must be a 2011 Senior who is outgoing, motivated and comfortable in front of the camera!
- Preferably students who are involved in extra-curricular activities such as music, sports or theater.

What you will do:

Act as a model AND spokesperson for the studio. Your images will be on our website, on our blog, and in our other marketing materials. You will help promote the studio by sharing your images with your friends via promotional cards, an online photo gallery, and other fun displays.

What you will receive in return:

- One hour-long "model" session. This session must be completed by March 31, 2010 and must take place on a weekday. These images will be used in Amy Lynden Photography promotional materials.

- Complimentary senior portrait session. This session can be either in studio or at a location to be determined. All senior sessions for 2011 senior models must be completed by July 31, 2010.

You will earn credit towards prints from any of the above sessions by referring your friends and schoolmates to my studio. You will also have the opportunity to earn albums, announcements, and other items.

claire | oh so unique | los gatos high school senior portraits

Claire was one of my 2010 senior models. As I was prepping images for her order, I ran across a few that I have rediscovered and totally love… I’d say if you want abs of steel, looks like belly dancing is the way to go… That aside, Claire is a worldly, intelligent and generous individual! She made my daughters the cutest little sock bunny that they love so much! Here are a few from our session…

julia | back with her violin | los altos high school senior portraits

Several posts ago, I shared some images of Julia, one of my 2009 models. Julia came in for her *official* senior portrait session, and it was too hard to resist bringing this beautiful violin back into the session. Last time around, the shots were a bit more “serious” so this time we scouted out a rusty old door downtown and added a bit of action. Then back to the studio for some fashion shots (tipping my hat to my photographer friend James whose images inspired the “side blowing hair” and backlit silhouette shots). Great fun!

a very special post

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been doing quite a few sessions of “girls and their horses” over the past couple of years. I have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and decided to break out a gallery on my website and dedicate it specifically to the equestrians out there! So, if you are a horse lover and haven’t been to my website in a while, please check out the new equestrian gallery on my teen site! We are fortunate to live in the beautiful Bay Area, featuring golden rolling hills, blue skies and fields of flowers, all providing a brilliant backdrop for these images. Over the weekend, I decided I wanted to do a special post to introduce my new gallery, and contacted Lara, a great girl who I photographed this summer with her beautiful horse, Frisbee. Lara is originally from the Netherlands and moved back this summer, forcing her to leave behind her beloved horse. We put together a great album for her as a souvenir of their relationship. While working on the photos for her album, I decided to make a little video clip to help introduce my new equestrian gallery, and sent her an email to ask if it was OK to post it on my blog. Sadly, she wrote back and informed me that Frisbee had broken his leg in the pasture several weeks ago and had to be put down. We captured some wonderful images, many of which I think display their sweet relationship. In loving memory of Frisbee…

A Post by Penelope: On Reading, Writing and one of the Best Cities in the World

From Our Blog Contributor, Penelope…

So on top of book selling, blogging and baking – I babysit occasionally. One couple in particular, both who were English majors, whom I not only look forward to conversing with but reading! In the midst of animal figurines, Legos and SpongeBob they always have the most amazing books on their coffee table.

I’ve just finished ‘Four Seasons in Rome: On Twins, Insomnia and the Biggest Funeral in the World’ by Anthony Doerr.

This beautiful book, a memoir of sorts, chronicles a year (four seasons) in the life of new parents under truly extraordinary circumstances. They have just welcomed twin boys, not long after (a few hours) Anthony receives news that he has just been granted a fellowship at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in Rome. On top of feeling overjoyed for these new parents I remembered what it was like feeling anonymous in a city.

I spent some time in Australia last year, specifically in Melbourne. The trip, prompted by a breakup ended up being about anything and everything but that. I spent an immense amount of time walking all over the city, getting acquainted with the sights, sounds, music and people of Melbourne. But most of all I wrote.

Postalco Notebooks saved me. They are really a traveler’s notebook. I had a few with me, their covers are cloth coated and are filled with micro grid paper and beautifully made in Japan. They’re the kind of notebook I imagine people keep in their libraries and as the years pass they wander into the room, pulling the notebooks from a shelf just to recount their adventures.

Postalco Notebooks are on sale now at Spartan but you can also find them at Canoe in Portland, Or and at Tortoise

Getting lost in the maze of alleyways in Melbourne, not a bad way to find yourself…

an angel face | sarah | los gatos high school senior portraits

Here’s Sarah… does she not have the most stunning face?? And gorgeous blue eyes! Great session in the studio - 100% natural light. Which is really the way to go on a 90 degree day in California :). Several weeks ago, I studied with fabulous make-up artist Karen Koenig, also a childhood friend. I have always loved make-up, and really a lot of the Photoshop work I do is quite related… I just needed to learn how to properly apply the real thing! I am excited to announce that I will be offering make-up as an add-on to all senior and headshot sessions. I have worked with make-up artists in the past, and will continue to do so for more complicated shoots, but it was always hard to coordinate schedules and I had the feeling I could really do it myself. No worries… I’m not starting a new career, but I am having a lot of fun with it! I did Sarah’s make-up for this session - so lucky to have such a great face to work with! And if you don’t have it yet, RUN, don’t walk and buy Urban Decay’s 24/7 eyeliner in Gunmetal… so smooth and a gorgeous color for blue eyes, as you see below!

A Post by Penelope: Yellow Owls Outside my Window and Tessa Kiros in my Kitchen!

Dearest Reader,

Firstly I think a million and one thanks are in order for the most wonderful welcome and trip down memory lane (er dog collar?!). Amy, Thank You! It’s been quite a journey for both of us, one I have been happy to be a part of.

This will be fun, and I hope you are able to come away with something from each post. Be it a recommendation for a good book, a new recipe to try at home, in your dorm or right this minute, or even a great song to keep on heavy rotation for a while. I don’t know what it is, maybe I have a little too much time on my hands but I really love finding greatness in a bottle, in a dress, in a stack of hand embossed paper or even a song.

I wholeheartedly believe that something as small as a stick of custom engraved wax for sealing a letter, can not only spruce up your words but your day as you drop it into a corner letter box and walk away happily.

Yellow Owl Workshop, a whimsical little paper goods shop perched atop Bernal Hill in San Francisco, may just do the trick. Artist Christine Schmidt dreams up the most beautiful prints, postcards, correspondence sets and ceramics. And if that isn’t enough to inspire curiosity, you can feel good about putting your two ‘green’ cents in and supporting local!

Two of my favorites amongst the goods, Christine’s ‘French’ Inspired Postcard Collection and this pretty fabulous ceramic Polaroid Camera!

Now I should warn you, you may want to have a snack handy or something to munch on whilst I talk about food. I had a particularly special upbringing in that my mother worked in a professional kitchen for nearly 24 years, and took me along for the ride through out most it. So the topic of food has it’s sacred place in my life. The same goes for books, and when you mix, knead and turn out the two you get something beautiful you can make with what you like.

Tessa Kiros is like rose water and pistachios to my rice pudding. She makes everything smell, look, taste and feel like being a child. Like lying on a bed of warm grass in a blue dress with little tiny polka dots all over it. A tattered old white barn on the coast of Iceland and knee length red colored boots to run through forests with.

She is an escape and a darn good cook and collector of all things beautiful. Tessa’s two books, Falling on Cloudberries: A World of Family Recipes and Apples for Jam are as rich in prose and recipes as they are in photographs. And it can be a bit daunting and discouraging to have a book filled to the brim with photographs because then you think that’s all it is. Just a ‘coffee table’ book you’ll never use. So not the case.

Tessa’s recipes are not only simple and accessible but effortlessly decadent and special any time of day, year and occasion. Come on people, warm baked apples and homemade Buttermilk Ice Cream! Light as a Feather Ricotta Gnocchi and Chocolate Panna Cotta.

Thank You so much for reading this far, I hope you’ll stay a while - there is plenty of room at this table and so much to talk about… Stay Tuned

xx

Introducing Penelope…

penelopeintro

I’d like you to meet Penelope. I have known Penelope since she was 12 years old. We met through a wonderful program called Friends For Youth. I was assigned to mentor her through her crazy teen years. When I first met Penelope, I remember she called herself Kornelope (after her favorite band Korn) and if I recall, was wearing a studded dog collar. She was also very shy. Fast forward um… ten years! She is now a mature 22 year old, and someone who I am extremely proud to call a friend. She has evolved into one of the most dynamic people I know. I have invited Penelope to be a regular contributor on this little blog of mine, and I think things are going to get A LOT more interesting around here. I’ll continue to post pictures from my sessions, but Penelope will be adding some fun and stylish stuff… so you’ll have to stay tuned! I don’t just invite anyone to do this, so here’s why… a little bit about Penelope… Style. She has extremely good taste in sooooo many things. Style. Style. Style. Creativity. In every aspect of her life - art, cooking, etc. In fact, she’s a great photographer too. Eccentric. She has the same eccentric taste that I do… we love colors, quirky clothes, Sofia Coppola movies, Anthropologie, French movies, etc… . Gourmand. She loves food and finds wonderful food items everywhere she goes!! She is a dreamer and a thinker. And a great writer and a music lover… I promise you’ll enjoy her posts! Welcome Penelope!

And nope. I didn’t take those pictures. She did.
